Raising the hands when saying Du`a'-ul-Qunut

A: Raising one's hands on supplicating to Allah in the Qunut (supplication recited while standing after bowing in the last unit of Prayer) and other situations is Sunnah (a supererogatory act of worship following the example of the Prophet) except in the situations the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself would not raise his hands, such as the supplications recited after the Five Obligatory Prayers, the supplications recited before the end of the Prayers, and the supplications recited in the sermons of Friday Prayer and the two `Eids Prayers as for the preacher. This is because the Prophet (peace be upon him) would not raise his hands on supplicating to Allah during these sermons except when he supplicated to Allah for Istisqa' (Asking for rain). Also, the people led in the Prayers raise their hands on supplicating to Allah in the Istisqa' Prayer as done by the Imam.
